Q&A with Ashley Daly, Director of Global Compensation Technology Solutions at Ineo

About Ashley Daly

Ashley’s global mobility career spans over two decades and brings a broad array of global mobility experience to Ineo. Her strong appreciation for the efficiencies, transparency, and compliance achieved by leveraging mobility technology solutions helps her clients realize their goals and maximize their Ineo services. In addition, she’s passionate about ensuring a positive customer experience and establishing and fostering strong partner relationships with her clients.

Living abroad and studying foreign language during college fostered Ashley’s interest in a global career, which began in Big 4 international assignment consulting. Ashley later transitioned from consulting to the corporate arena, joining the global mobility function for a large multinational pharmaceutical company. Her responsibilities ranged from providing counsel to HR and business leaders on all aspects of international mobility policy and compensation process, to education, training, and multiple global mobility software implementations.


How does technology play a role in global mobility?

Global Mobility management is staggering in its complexity – from basic assignment demographic data tracking and maintenance to cost and tax estimation and compensation modeling, to payroll instruction, total compensation accumulation, shadow payroll instruction, and tax reporting. Mobility programs – particularly those of scale – that attempt to manage these varied compliance obligations without specialized technology often find themselves mired in administration and impossibly resource-constrained.

Bespoke global mobility technology can provide mobility practitioners with a one-stop shop for managing the above activities, enabling centralization of key assignment data and real-time access to critical information and reports. I believe technology facilitates peace of mind around achieving global mobility compliance while freeing global mobility professionals up for more personal, value-adding activities.

If you’ve ever relocated for your job, what’s one piece of advice you’d like to give to those who are about to undertake a relocation?

You can’t be too organized! Create a detailed move project plan if your employer or relocation counselor does not provide one, and revisit it regularly. There are so many interdependent elements to a relocation, and one overlooked detail can, at best, delay – and, at worst, derail! – the entire undertaking. In addition, remember to focus on the end goal, keep things in perspective, and maintain your sense of humor – relocation isn’t for the faint of heart!

How do you approach developing long-term customer relationships?

For me, building strong customer relationships always starts first and foremost with establishing a foundation of trust and respect. In a client services environment, demonstrating responsiveness and empathy is critical. I also aspire to bring perspective, respectfully challenge, and partner with my clients not only in success but also through hardships. It helps having been on the “other” side of the business when I worked in corporate mobility – I know what I expected of my suppliers and use this as a guide in navigating my day-to-day interactions.

What’s your role in Ineo’s client experience?

I’m on the front lines with our clients, intercepting their feedback and serving as an intermediary with our development team on issues that cannot be immediately resolved. In addition, I’m responsible for ensuring our clients receive timely responses, that their requests are prioritized appropriately, and that the necessary Ineo resources are allocated and mobilized to address their ever-evolving needs.

What strengths and expertise do you bring to the Ineo team?

I bring to Ineo over 20 years of professional experience in the global mobility arena. At this point in my career, I’ve seen global mobility from multiple vantage points – including as a consultant, an in-house corporate mobility practitioner, and an (almost) customer when I was considering undertaking an international relocation in a previous role. I would like to think my strengths include project management and execution, communication, subject matter expertise, and a partnering spirit (both within and outside the Ineo organization).

What aspects of your job do you find the most rewarding?

I’ve often marveled at the fact that I’ve spent my entire career in the same industry. Like many global mobility practitioners, I think this is a testament to global mobility as an exciting and ever-changing profession. Broadly, the aspects of global mobility I enjoy most are the exposure to other cultures and the mix of soft and technical skills it demands. At Ineo specifically, I relish the continuous learning, teamwork, and daily opportunities to apply creativity and initiative in solving challenges.

What’s your proudest accomplishment outside of your career?

I would have to say my family is my proudest accomplishment outside of my work. My husband and I are the parents of two pre-teen boys who bring us endless joy (and challenge)! Not unlike ourselves, our kids are works in progress, and we’re continually humbled by their independence, senses of humor, and unique talents.

How do you enjoy spending your free time when you’re off the clock?

I firmly believe in the mantra, “Work hard, play hard.” Outside work, I love exercising, reading, spending time with family and friends, and traveling. I have been fortunate to see a lot of the world via my work, and I hope to continue checking destinations off my travel bucket list as COVID (hopefully) subsides.
